The 30 June 2016 may not seem a particularly remarkable date but if you run a company or LLP it’s important. Say goodbye to your old friend the annual return.
From now on all companies and LLPs will instead be required to deliver a “confirmation statement” to Companies House. The purpose is the same as the annual return and just like its predecessor, must be filed at least once every 12 months.
What does this mean in practice? Not a lot! The intention is to make the process simpler; any information already held at Companies House must be checked and confirmed and relevant changes updated. The confirmation statement must be provided within 14 days of the end of the relevant review period.
You will see one big difference, a new obligation to provide information in connection with “People with Significant Control”. For more information about this, please see our article How does the new PSC register affect your company or LLP?
